THE AMERICAN PATRIOT 1911

THE AMERICAN PATRIOT 1911

When John Hancock penned his flourishing signature to the Declaration of Independence, he made a bold statement. “There,” he declared, “I guess King George will be able to read that without his spectacles!” Courage was the first virtue of the American Revolution and has been the hallmark of American patriotism ever since.

That spirit of style and boldness is captured in the American Patriot, designed and crafted by ALTAMONT®. Deep relief engraving that requires no magnification rises from the slide, as a powerful eagle soars across a background of stripes. Thirteen full stars, representing the thirteen original Colonies, are engraved on each side of the slide housing. Combined with the custom star front-strap checkering, Fifty full stars representing the Fifty States are engraved on the slide and frame. Rich walnut grips with engraved screws are inlaid with engraved rosewood panels.

Built on a custom Kimber platform, each firearm is fully functional and intended for use. With a bright satin finish on the stainless steel slide, there are no susceptible areas to damage or weak points to scratch. All ALTAMONT® grips have a lifetime warranty. Each firearm has a custom ‘ALT’ serial number.

ALTAMONT® is a family owned and operated business that has served the firearms industry for decades. Founded by Kenneth and Denise Enright, we are celebrating our 40th Anniversary with a special project demonstrating our design capabilities and master craftsmanship, executed by members of the family. Commissioned by Kenneth Enright, this firearm was designed and engraved by Merlin Enright. Chester and Sayre Enright produced the photography and visual resources. The grips were produced by Patrick Enright.

A custom presentation box is also available as an optional add-on for $199. USA Made. The box includes a Super Rosewood inlay custom fit to the American Patriot 1911. Choose from American Walnut or Cherry, with solid wood lid or with glass lid. An engraved, serialized nameplate is included with your display box purchase.

THE KENNETH ENRIGHT BUCK 110 COMMEMORATIVE SERIES

THE KENNETH ENRIGHT BUCK 110 COMMEMORATIVE SERIES

The Buck 110 Folding Hunter needs little introduction. As a timeless classic, it has rightly taken its place in the top tier of American knives since its introduction in 1964. It has spawned numerous imitators, variations, and special editions. But perhaps more importantly, the Buck 110 has been carried by millions of Americans in all walks of life across multiple generations. From being an every day workhorse knife to a constant woods companion, it has lived up to all its tasks. It is simply a solid, elegant knife.

And though the 110 remains functionally relevant today, there is a nostalgic element to it. It is from the era before cell phones and digital distractions, when an afternoon in the woods with only a knife was enough --a simpler time.

Many of us have Buck 110 stories. My grandfather actually carried an early model, and my father first taught me how to skin a deer with one. But at the time, I had little idea of how much of a role my father, Kenneth N. Enright, had played in the history of one of the greatest knives ever made. In fact, he had been instrumental in shoring up an early weakness: the handle.

With the original Ebony handles prone to humidity, cracking, warping and manufacturing variance, Buck Knives contacted Ken for a solution. With Jack Barrett of Rutland Plywood, he developed a fully stabilized, waterproof Macassar Ebony Dymondwood in 1994, and then began making handles. The handles worked. From 1994 - 2018, Altamont Co. produced over 10,000,000 handles with no reports of material failure.

Kenneth N. Enright passed away on March 23, 2018. His legacy continues. This is a custom engraved commemorative series to honor his contributions to the Buck 110 Folding Hunter. His was a tangible legacy. The knives he passed down to us, his sons, are some of our greatest treasures, including his favored Buck 055’s and Buck 110’s. To those of us looking to do the same, there is little better to pass onto the next generation than the timeless Buck 110 Folding Hunter.

MEET THE ENGRAVER: MERLIN ENRIGHT

Merlin Enright
My father loved engraving. Specifically, he admired the bold and creative style of American Style Engraving. He had previously worked with the Colt Custom Shop supplying custom ivory grips, and also with outstanding American engravers like Ron Smith. “The European scroll and bulino engraving is nice, but it’s a little light for my taste,” he often told me. “...My heart is really with the American engraving style.”

"My heart is really with the American engraving style."

His design tastes and sense rubbed off on me as we worked together, and as I began to learn about engraving. I attended my first FEGA (Firearms Engraving Guild of America) Show in Reno at age seventeen. It was an epiphany. I had never seen anything like it. From that moment, my eyes were opened to the possibilities of the world of engraving.

My engraving journey had begun. I started studying engraving, including instruction under FEGA master Rex Pedersen. Years passed, and I was fortunate to work with my father full-time at Altamont. Our company primarily specialized in designing and making pistol grips, ranging from high volume production grips to speciality exclusives. We continued to do custom projects and designs, sometimes crossing paths with well-known engravers such as Lee Griffiths.

We had worked with TALO Distributors on the specialty pistol grip side for many years. In 2012, we created the Colt 1911 Iwo Jima tribute for them as a limited edition - One of 300. It was an unprecedented deep relief engraving, and the start of Altamont engraved guns. Six years and numerous projects later we are still refining our craft, and honing our design and engraving skills. Altamont, and I personally, have come a long way. But in engraving, the journey never ends. There is always a new idea to try, and a new steel canvas waiting.

There is always a new idea to try, and a new steel canvas waiting.

We want to bring a unique and bold approach to every engraving project we touch. We hold ourselves to a very high standard. Behind any great engraving are countless hours of agonizing failure and revisions to a design. Beyond any hammer, air-powered graver, or engraving machine, there is a driving vision to see the idea to completion. We believe that the extra hours and effort makes all the difference. It’s worth it.

If we have captured even a portion of American boldness and creativity in our engraving, we have been successful. We thank you for your support, as we continue our engraving journey.
